We humans have all these assertions about what happens after death. Religions even try to sell their faith based on them. Christianity says we must repent from our sins and believe in Jesus as our lord and savior so we can live in Heaven for all of eternity. Hinduism, as well as other religions, believe that once a person dies the soul leaves the body and reanimates a new one (reincarnation). Muslims believe that life here on Earth is just a trial. My question is: where is the basis? Unless we have died, we don’t know what happens after death. And when we die we stop living, so we can’t tell anyone what happens even if something does happen. We don’t even know if we really have a soul!

Soul: the spiritual or immaterial part or a human being or animal, regarded as immortal.

What makes us think we are immortal? Humans want to believe that our importance is beyond life in itself. That we have been a part of life and death for eternity and we will always be. Again, we don’t know these things.

OK, maybe we do continue to exist after death, and if we do a few of us will go to Heaven because we accepted Jesus as our lord and savior. Those who never knew about him or lived before him will go to Hell? Well… whether we go to Hell or Heaven we will have eternal life, right? It’s just a matter of eternal suffering or happiness. I personally don’t like the “believe in me, or else…”, it sounds very human like. Now, I want to believe in reincarnation, but how come I can’t remember anything from my previous lives? Or is my soul brand new? Maybe my body is the first one to use it. I like the Muslim thought too, I just don’t know if there is an after life. It can’t be guaranteed so all I can do is make the best out of this life.

I think faith is powerful because it makes us believe in something without questioning it. It is interesting that faith and ignorance go hand-in-hand, but we dare not use both terms together. People’s thoughts are what they are. Everyone is free to think and believe whatever they want to, as long as we don’t step into others’ thoughts and try to make them change.

Thoughts are meant to be a personal evolution and not just the photocopy of someone else’s mind.
